
INGREDIENTS
- 2 ½ cups flour
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1 medium carrot ,grated(optional)
- ½ tbsp baking powder
- 1tsp yeast(optional)
- 5 sugar
- pinch of salt
- 1 egg
- vegetable oil(enough for frying)
- 1tbp melted margarine/butter
DIRECTIONS
without yeast
- whisk the milk,eggs,grated carrot and melted butter/margarine in a bowl.
- In a separate bowl, mix the dry ingredients and grated carrots.
- mix this with the egg mixture until well incorporated to obtain sticky dough (for yummy donuts the dough will be quite sticky)
- once well incorporated apply oil on a surface and transfer the dough from the bowl,continue kneading till the dough no longer sticky.
- Cover the dough and let it sit for 10 minutes.
with yeast
- Add sugar and milk to a bowl,stir till completely dissolved then add the yeast,cover this and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes then stir.
- Add egg and melted margarine or butter, whip till well mixed.
- Prepare your dry ingredients and grated carrots in a separate bowl.
- Add the egg mixture and mix until well incorporated to obtain sticky dough (for yummy doughnuts the dough will be quite sticky)
- once well incorporated apply oil on a surface and transfer the dough from the bowl,continue kneading till the dough is no longer sticky.
- Cover your dough with a kitchen towel and let it sit in a warm place till it rises to double its size (about20-30 minutes)
once your dough is ready;
- Divide the dough into two,roll out the portions till about 1 cm thick .
- Using a doughnut cutter or a big cup and a small cup,cut out your shapes.
- Knead the left overs till all the dough is used up.
- Heat oil(enough for frying)in a deep pan (to check whether the oil is hot enough for frying,dip a small piece of dough,if it rises to the surface immediately then you are good to go!)
- Fry your doughnuts till golden brown on both sides( avoid overcrowding the pan)
- Drain excess oil using paper towel,put them in a bowl and let them cool.
