EASY HOMEMADE MANDAZI RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 egg
  • 21/2 cups flour
  • 5 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1/2 tsp ginger powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp margarine/ butter
  • enough oil for frying

Method

  1. In a bowl ,mix the flour, salt,sugar,cinnamon,baking powder and ginger well.
  2. Rub the margarine/butter in the flour mixture.
  3. In a separate bowl,beat the egg and milk.
  4. Create a well in the flour mixture then pour in the egg+milk
  5. Knead till the dough is soft and no longer sticky on your hands and surface(you can add some flour in the process if it’s still sticky)
  6. Once the dough is done,cover the bowl with a dry clothe and leave it to rest for about 40-50minutes.(place it in a warm place for better results ,I put mine in the microwave for 2 minutes then let it rest for 40 minutes)
  7. Roll out the dough on a surface covered with flour till about 1cm thick for fleshy mandazi
  8. . With a cookie cutter,cup or knife,shape your mandazi to your desired shapes.
  9. Heat your oil in a pan (you can deep a small piece of dough to see whether it’s hot enough, if it raises to the surface immediately then it’s good to go)
  10. Fry your mandazi till golden brown on one side then turn them to cook the other side till golden brown.
  11. Drain the excess oil using a paper towel.
  12. Enjoy your mandazi with a hot cup of coffee/tea/chocolate.
